Red Lentil Soup

Hello everyone, I have another soup recipe for you. We are cooking one of my favorite Turkish soup which is called ` Red Lentil Soup `.

As you know, lentils are a part of bean family. That is why they are high in many differen things and good for our body. Actually, nowadays I have been seeing many different things made with lentils. Especially, people who are vegan, vegetarian or want to be healthy, do not eat gluten choose to eat those products. They become pretty popular too. For instance, I saw red lentil pasta and tried it. Of course it is not pasta I mean lets be honest you do not have the same taste.

Anyway, as lentil becomes such a popular ingredient these days it is a perfect timing to share this delicious Turkish Soup which made with red lentils. Also, because of how healthy soups are you should add soup into your daily meal. I have more soup recipes for you maybe some Turkish Soups like Yogurt Soup , Ezogelin Soup, Vermicelli Tomato Soup or perfect for autumn or winter try Roasted Butternut Squash Soup.

*I could not find red lentil in normal store so I bought from Turkish store but if you know anywhere else I can find let me know please 🙂

  • 1 Cup Red Lentil
  • 1 Small Onion
  • 5 Cup Water
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tsp Salt & Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp Red Pepper Flakes And Dry Mint ( I used ones came from Turkey)

How To Make Red Lentil Soup:

  • Cut your onions into small pieces.
  • Add your olive oil and butter into pan and heat it. Add your onion and cook till they get soft.
  • Wash your lentils with cold water. Add into pan stir and add water, salt and pepper.
  • Cover it and cook on medium heat (let it boil do not turn down heat too much) till lentils cooked. Which takes mostly 20 - 30 minutes.
  • When they cooked add into your blender or use hand blender and blend till it become soup texture. You can add more water if you want less thicker.
  • *Lentils are requiring lots of water so later in the fridge they might get little more thicker before you heat it you can add little more water and heat like that.
  • Blending is depends on you. If you cut your onion into really small pieces lentils are going to get really soft and mushy so you do not have to blend at that time.
  • Add back into your pan from blender and add mint and red pepper. You can add more while serving if you want to.
